This is a small bronze by the Russian artist Mikhail Chemiakin. It measures 5 1/2 inches X 5 1/2 inches. After being sent to the Gulag he escaped and went to Paris and lived with his wife, Rebekkah and daughter Dorothee, both artists. This piece was cast during his 'Carnival' period, a very prolific period during his years in Paris in the 1960's. He moved to New York in the early 1980's. His work is highly regarded and in some of the most important collections. This is one of the few bronzes he has ever done. Born in Moscow in 1943, he continues to create in many genre's including doing the costumes for the "Nutcracker" which was highly regarded.
